World Bank Kenya Microgrid Project
The Kenya Microgrid Project is part of the World Bank's "Lighting Africa" initiative, with a total investment of US$12.6 million. During the construction phase, Kenyan President William Ruto visited the project site twice, attended the project launch ceremony, and pressed the high-voltage switch-on button in the presence of the media and the project team. The project aims to help households in off-grid areas of Kenya gain access to electricity resources, facilitating their first step towards a modern society.
The successful operation of the microgrid project in Kenya will further promote the construction of power grids in Kenya and even Africa. The project adopts a modular design and independently develops an EMS control system and a battery BMS management system to ensure safe, stable, and economical operation of the microgrid, while reducing later operation and maintenance costs. It is expected that upon completion, the project will provide a stable supply of over 3.6 million kWh of clean electricity annually to Kenya, solving the electricity supply issues for over 4,000 households.
